Copenhagen

Too many pictures. Too little time. Inconvenient internet connection. With the time I have tonight, I'll try to do a big post of some randomly selected shots of my first taste of Europe. The city of Copenhagen is truly beautiful (and expensive).. More on that for a later post. Let's start with some pictures of Heathrow Airport, my first "stop" in Europe via a British Airways connecting flight.. It's truly an impressive airport, with large Samsung flat panel TVs for traveller's entertainment.

Next, abroad BA 818, a view of Denmark from above..



More on transportation. This is the newly built Copenhagen Metro... only started running in 2002. They have 2 lines.. yellow and green. This is what I use to commute everyday (plus a bus- pictures of that to come for a later post). Most of the Metro is underground, but there are sections which are above ground resembling Vancouver's skytrain. It's also an honour system, which I guess is how most of Europe's train system runs.

And this is inside Hovedbanegården, the central train station of Copenhagen..

Outside Kogens Nytorv station, which was the first place I ventured to after storing my luggage and orienting myself. This station is close to Strøget, the famous pedestrian street, and Nyhavn, one of my favorate spots in the city. There's something very charming and picture-like about Nyhavn. It feels almost frozen in time...

And Nyhavn.. oh Nyhavn..! Hans Christian Andersen spent much of his adulthood in one of the houses of Nyhavn. I really love sitting here..




Here is one very Danish looking picture taken outside Amalienborg Slotspladis (Amalienborg Palace- where the royal family resides). There are always a few guards on duty- at least there has been at all the times I've visited. A friend once told me that their hats are made out of real bearskin! I assume it gets quite hot on a summer day under a scorching sun..

Some pictures taken outside Frederikskirken or Frederik's Church (also known as Marmorkirken or the Marble Church). It's quite grand. Notice the annoying street lights in Copenhagen which hang from wires.. interferes with a lot of photographs, including this one on the grand church dome..

Next, a series of pictures taken on the streets of Copenhagen. This is truly a bikers' city!

Beautiful Copenhagen with its well preserved residential buildings and colorful outer walls.

Even a random church in downtown can be picture perfect..



And then there's the impressive building that houses the stock exchange centre..


And well, there are some places which looks more modern. This is a busy intersection outside Rådhus (town hall square).

Lastly, this is the Panum Institute where I work. The numbers indicate the entrance to each building. I'm in building #18. There's a fancy spiral staircase for me to climb everyday!
